Cytometry

"Flow cytometry has become widespread in the fields of medicine, cell biology and cell separation for further genomic and functional studies."

DR. BRUNO PAIVA
DIRECTOR. CYTOMETRY PLATFORM

Flow cytometry is an essential technique for differential diagnosis, prognostic classification, and monitoring of minimal residual disease (MRD) in multiple hematologic malignancies. In addition, the potential of cytometry to detect and characterize small numbers of cells is increasingly attractive for monitoring solid tumors as well.

The Flow Cytometry Unit is part of CIMA LAB Diagnostics and has recognized expertise in the diagnosis and monitoring of hematological malignancies. Our Unit includes a multidisciplinary team of cytometrists and technicians, as well as multiple polychromatic cytometers and cell separators. In addition, the Cytometry Unit offers the possibility of isolating and depositing cells or cell lysates in individual collections for each researcher in the Biobank of the Universidad de Navarra.

We use the most advanced flow cytometers for clinical diagnostics, panels of ≥8 monoclonal antibodies, principal component analysis, and validated software for systematic data collection for clinical trials.

Our staff continuously researches new prognostic biomarkers and works daily towards more sensitive, accurate, and standardized flow cytometry. We store and export immunophenotypic data in a flexible and timely manner, according to user requirements. The flexibility and validated data management system of the Flow Cytometry Unit makes it an ideal laboratory for national and international clinical trials.

A platform at the service of patients and research

Assistance activity

We study in a personalized and integral way the genes and phenotype of the patient through Cima LAB Diagnostics.

Services to the researcher

We offer researchers our diagnostic experience and technological capacity for the development of their scientific projects.

Research activity

We innovate in the search for new biomarkers and the design of new technologies for the evolution of the disease through preclinical and clinical trials.

Cutting-edge technology

We provide researchers with equipment, technical support and training for cell separation, acquisition and analysis of flow cytometry data

It is a high speed digital cell separator that allows the separation of up to 4 cell populations simultaneously. It is equipped with two laser lines (blue 488nm and red 633nm). It has mirrors, filters and detectors that allow the detection of a total of 6 fluorescence parameters.

In addition, different pressures can be used depending on the size and fragility of the cells to be separated. It has the ability to separate cells in different media, including 1.5 ml, 5 ml and 15 ml tubes. It uses FACS Diva v6.1.3 as acquisition software.

This cytometer is only handled by the cytometry service staff and users must make an appointment to use it (dalignani@unav.es).

It is a high-speed digital cell separator that allows the separation of up to 4 cell populations simultaneously. It is equipped with four laser lines (blue 488nm, red 633nm, violet 407nm and near-ultraviolet 375nm) and can be used up to 3 at the same time. It has mirrors, filters and detectors that can detect a total of 9 fluorescence parameters.

In addition, different pressures can be used depending on the size and fragility of the cells to be separated. It has the ability to separate cells in different media, including 1.5 ml, 5 ml, 15 ml and 96-well plates. It uses FACS Diva v8.0.2 as acquisition software.

This cytometer is only handled by cytometry service staff and users must make an appointment in advance to use it  (dalignani@unav.es).

It is a cell separator with 5 lasers (blue 488 nm, red 638 nm, violet 405 nm, ultraviolet 355 nm and yellow 561 nm). It has mirrors, filters and detectors that allow the detection of a total of 17 fluorescences with an acquisition capacity of up to 70,000 events per second.

It allows the simultaneous separation of 6 cell populations in different tubes (1.5, 5 or 15 ml), also in plates (6, 12, 24, 96, 384 or 1536 wells), or slides.

It is equipped with a laminar flow cabinet and an aerosol evacuation system with EPA filter, which allows the separation of cells in total sterility and provides a biosafety level (BSL) 2. It resolves particles down to 0.2 µm, which allows the separation of microvesicles.

This cytometer is only handled by the cytometry service staff and users must make an appointment in advance to use it (dalignani@unav.es).

This instrument is a flow cytometer for analytical cytometry equipped with 3 lasers (blue 488 nm, red 633 nm and violet 405 nm) organized in two optical configurations of mirrors and filters that allow the analysis of up to 8 fluorescences.

It is capable of acquiring up to 10,000 events per second. It uses FACS Diva v6.1.3 as acquisition software.

The cytometer is operated by the research personnel themselves, who must be previously instructed by the cytometry service.

It is a flow cytometer equipped with 6 lasers (blue 488 nm, red 638 nm, violet 405 nm, ultraviolet 355 nm, yellow 561 nm, infrared 808 nm), which allows to increase the number of markers per cell increasing the detection of up to 21 parameters simultaneously with high sensitivity.

It is capable of acquiring up to 30,000 events per second. This equipment incorporates an SSC detector in the violet laser, which allows the analysis of smaller particles and thus opens flow cytometry to the field of microvesicles.

The cytometer is operated by the research personnel themselves, who must be instructed in advance by the cytometry department.
