Professional career
She graduated in Biochemistry from the University of Navarra in 1999 (1st National End of Degree Award) and obtained her PhD in Biochemistry from the same university in 2003 (extraordinary doctoral award).
She has completed postdoctoral fellowships at New York Medical College and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (United States).
Since 2008, she has been a member of CIMA University of Navarra.
She is a tenured professor in the Department of Pathology, Anatomy, and Physiology at the University of Navarra.
RESEARCH AREAS
- Ramón y Cajal researcher (2010-2015) with i3 accreditation.
- She has participated in more than 30 competitive research projects, serving as principal investigator in 13 of them. Noteworthy are the competitive projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and the Carlos III Health Institute, as well as European collaborative projects (FP7, H2020, and ERA-CVD programs), among others.
- She is co-inventor of two patents.
- She has participated in 12 research contracts with pharmaceutical and technology companies, serving as co-principal investigator in two of them.
AREAS OF INTEREST
- Study the role of myocardial remodeling, with special attention to interstitial fibrosis, in the development and progression of chronic heart failure.
- Analyze the factors and pathways involved in extracellular matrix alterations, as well as their impact on cardiac structure and function.
- Identify new key molecular targets in the development of interstitial fibrosis.
- Develop and validate non-invasive biomarkers (circulating and imaging) of myocardial remodeling, with a priority focus on biomarkers associated with alterations in collagen metabolism.
Activity
As an educator
- She is a tenured professor in the Department of Pathology, Anatomy, and Physiology at the University of Navarra, where she teaches classes in the Medicine and Biochemistry degree programs.
- She was accredited for the position of tenured professor by ANECA (2011).
- She has supervised four doctoral theses, four master's theses, and eight bachelor's theses.
- She has collaborated in the writing of four books.
As a researcher
- He has contributed to the publication of more than 135 scientific articles in international journals, most of them in the first quartile of their category, and more than 100 papers at national/international conferences.
- He has been a guest speaker at various national and international conferences and symposiums, notably the Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association (2008), the Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology (2009), the Annual Meeting of the European Society of Hypertension (2010; 2012), the International Workshop on Cardiomyocyte Biology (2018); Heart Failure of the Heart Failure Association (2019), Annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (2020).
