Professional career

Medical degree (1988) and PhD in Medicine (1996), with an Extraordinary Doctoral Award, from the University of Navarra. Specialist in Internal Medicine at Clínica Universidad de Navarra.

Honorary Diploma from the European Board of Transplant Medicine.

He completed training stays in the Liver Transplant Services at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham, United Kingdom), the University of Michigan Medical Center (University of Michigan, USA), Presbyterian University Hospital (University of Pittsburgh, USA), and Northwestern University Hospital (Chicago, USA).

Staff physician in the Hepatology Unit of the Department of Internal Medicine at Clínica Universidad de Navarra.

Director of the Department of Internal Medicine since October 2024.

RESEARCH AREAS

  • Researcher at the Biomedical Research Network Center for Hepatic and Digestive Diseases (CIBER-EHD). His main research areas are liver transplantation, liver injury, and hepatocellular carcinoma.
  • He has participated in more than 10 clinical trials in Hepatology, primarily in the area of liver transplantation.
  • He has participated in more than 10 research studies in Hepatology.
