SOLACE. Strengthening the screening of Lung Cancer in Europe

Project information

SOLACE is an EU project funded under the EU4Health programme. The aim of the project is to create clear, concise and practical guidelines on implementing a lung cancer screening programme at a national level.

Lung cancer is the second most diagnosed cancer among males and the third among females in EU Member States and the leading cause of cancer death in both sexes. Several randomised trials from US and Europe have demonstrated the capability of low dose computed tomography (LDCT) to detect lung cancer early and significantly reduce mortality.

The project will run pilots that will identify and enrol specific populations that are currently underrepresented or at higher risk of lung cancer. This includes women, people living with other diseases, ethnic minorities, people living in geographically remote regions, socially deprived populations and people living in remote areas.

Project coordination
A consortium of 33 entity partners with representation from academic and research institutions, university hospitals, national health authorities, organisations and associations representing patients and health professionals. The European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) is the project coordinator

What’s the goal?
SOLACE aims to develop, test and disseminate tools to help overcome identified bottlenecks and specifically address the health inequalities in different European countries. It will provide a toolbox for individualised approaches for lung cancer screening on a national or regional level.
